CONCERT DESIGN

Country: Denmark

Once an ensemble has learned the music and is ready to take to the stage, many questions arise… “Where and how to stand? Where to look? How to present? How to create captivating staging?”

This presentation will address these questions through presenting a concept called Concert Design.

Concert Design is a practical approach to designing embodied, aesthetic and communicative choral music performances.

Presenter Astrid Vang-Pedersen has developed the concept Concert Design, through her doctoral work titled: “Concert Design – an investigation into the potential of Classical Concerts as creatively designed events”.

Astrid Vang-Pedersen is the artistic leader of the vocal ensemble Dopplers, which performs concerts with an emphasis on theatrical and communicative aspects of vocal music. Dopplers was invited to perform at WSCM in Barcelona in 2017.

Astrid works as a freelance teacher and performance coach, facilitating masterclasses and workshops on choral conducting and Concert Design. Her methods on Concert Design have received international recognition through her lectures and interactive workshops at the ‘Oistat’ Conference in Brazil (2014), The European research conference ‘Leo Sings’ (2014), at ‘Europa Cantat’ in both Hungary (2015) and Estonia (2018).
