New Zealand Youth Choir

CHOIR OF THE WORLD, LLANGOLLEN

Country: Aotearoa
Conductor: David Squire
Voicing: SATB

New Zealand Youth Choir, directed by David Squire since 2011, has achieved considerable success since its formation in 1979 with performances across Aotearoa and eleven international tours including visits to the UK, Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore, Russia, the Republic of Korea and China.

The Choir of 18 to 25-year-old singers has firmly established its reputation for consistency, energy and excellence.

With a strong track record in diverse programming, New Zealand Youth Choir has a great commitment to music from Aotearoa which includes works by emerging and established New Zealand composers, as well as music from Maori and Pacific traditions. The choristers WSCM2020 repertoire will feature a kaleidoscope of music that takes audiences on a journey around the South Pacific – a very similar journey to the one the New Zealand Youth Choir will travel in December 2019 when the choir undertakes a Pasifika tour.

The choir has won numerous awards in major competitions abroad, including Grand Prix at the 2016 IFAS in Pardubice Czech Republic and taking out the “Choir of the World” title at the Llangollen international eisteddfod in Wales.

“The New Zealand Youth Choir is one of the jewels in the choral crown of New Zealand. It’s nearly 40 year history has seen it attain the very highest of standards.” David Hamilton (NZ composer and choral conductor)

New Zealand Youth Choir is proud to represent the host country at WSCM2020 and members are eager to share their unique sounds and stories with the world while experiencing those from excellent choirs around the globe.
