12th World Symposium on Choral Music

Gondwana

CELEBRATED CHILDREN'S CHOIR PHENOMENON

Country: Australia
Conductor: Lyn Williams
Voicing: SSA(A)

The singers of Gondwana are drawn from the remarkable Australian choral phenomenon that is Gondwana Choirs. As choristers of the Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir, the Sydney Children’s Choir and Gondwana Voices, they represent the finest of children’s choral singing in Australia. The choir’s Symposium repertoire will include specially-commissioned works reflecting stories, language and events which have shaped our continent and its people.

Gondwana features indigenous singers of Far North Queensland, children of farming families from Western Australia and young people from city communities, all coming together under the masterful direction of Lyn Williams to create unique choral performances which embody the cultural diversity of Australia.

These choristers are in hot demand and have toured widely internationally including collaborating with the Vienna Boys’ Choir in Europe, performing at the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games and being the first Australian children’s choir to perform at the BBC Proms.

“The choristers set an extremely high standard of choral performance. Their performances are characterised by a formidable choral technique of intonation, diction, and precision of ensemble coming together to create a shining choral sound.”  - Brett Weymark (Artistic and Music Director, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs)

Gondwana is honoured and delighted to be representing Australia at the WSCM2020. Through a rich commissioning program, Gondwana Choirs has long been singing stories of “People and the Land” of Australia.
