12th World Symposium on Choral Music

Volunteer

COME AND BE PART OF THE WORLD SYMPOSIUM ON CHORAL MUSIC 2020

The 12th World Symposium on Choral Music (WSCM2020) is an eight-day festival of concerts, talks, workshops and panel discussions to be held in Auckland from 11 to 18 July. The programme features 24 world-class choirs, 50 leading practitioners, the Surround Sounds fringe festival and an international Trade Expo. It is by far the biggest choral event ever to land on our shores.

We are looking for 300 volunteers to provide practical support for the many choirs, presenters, delegates and concertgoers who will be attending the Symposium. Your cheerful enthusiasm, “can-do” attitude and general willingness to assist in this choral extravaganza will ensure that the event runs superbly.

On the other side, we hope that being part of the WSCM2020 Volunteer Team will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Volunteer Roles

We are looking for people to undertake the following volunteer roles:

  • Choir Liaison
  • Presenter Liaison
  • Delegate Liaison
  • Registration Desk
  • Front of House/Ushers
  • Event Assistance

Within these roles, speakers of Cantonese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Spanish would be especially valuable.

A detailed description of each of the roles and indication of the time commitment required is available here.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers will need to commit to a reasonable amount of time (a minimum of three shifts) during the Symposium.

Volunteers are expected to act honestly, conscientiously and in good faith at all times when carrying out their duties and in their interactions with people, and agree to the Volunteer Code of Conduct

Volunteering at WSCM2020 will be a fascinating experience, offering the chance to meet overseas conductors, singers and presenters, to sit in on rehearsals, and to be part of the backstage machinery of a major international festival.

However, while being a WSCM2020 volunteer will certainly be rewarding, it does mean that when you are ‘on deck’ you will not be able to attend sessions or concerts, and we don’t have capacity to provide these free to you at other times. If you are wanting the full Symposium experience, with access to the many presenter sessions and the full concert programme, we suggest that you register as a delegate.

Volunteer Benefits

  • Special edition WSCM2020 T-Shirt
  • Official thank-you letter
  • Certificate of volunteering
  • Invitation to the WSCM2020 Volunteer thank-you morning tea
  • Surround Sounds Concerts - free access to lunchtime concerts with your volunteer pass
  • WSCM2020 Concerts - one free ticket to an evening concert at the Auckland Town Hall

What’s Next?
We’ll be in touch in early May with an update on your application and information on the next steps.
