Portland State Chamber Choir is the top choral ensemble at Portland State. Since its founding in 1975 the Chamber Choir has performed and competed in venues across the United States and around the world, earning over 30 medals and awards in international choir competitions.

In 2013, the Chamber Choir competed in the Seghizzi International Competition for Choral Singing in Gorizia, Italy where it earned 15 separate awards and became the first American Choir ever to win the Grand Prize in the competition’s 52-year history.

In 1999 and 2005, the Chamber Choir won four medals at choral competitions in Martkoberdorf, Germany. The choir has also appeared at national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and collaborated with leading conductors such as Frieder Bernius, Andrew Parrot, Robert Shaw, James DePreist, Carlos Kalmar and Eric Ericson.

The ensemble’s latest album The Doors of Heaven - Music of Eriks Esenvalds was released by Naxos, the largest Classical label in the world. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart (a first for a University choir), and was also a #1 seller on Amazon and iTunes. Apple Music added the album to it’s A-List Classical Playlist.

“amongst the finest choirs in the world.” - Classics Today

Portland State Chamber Choir is looking forward to presenting a repertoire at WSCM2020 that includes a mystical planetary theme as well as music from cultures that are not normally associated with choral traditions. The singers are excited to share their love of music with other choirs at the Symposium and hear music from around the world.
